# Create urgency with a countdown timer

You can add a countdown timer to the announcement at the top of your cart. Go to **Cart** tab > **Body** > **Announcement**, add {{timer}} to your text, then turn on the **Timer** toggle.
A countdown reminds shoppers that time is limited. For example: "Your cart is reserved for 9:53 minutes." Let's set one up.
## Add the timer to your announcement
1. In your Shopify admin, open **Adoric Cart**, then click your cart in the **Carts** list.
2. At the top of the left panel, click the **Cart** tab.
3. Under **Body**, turn on the **Announcement** toggle, then click **Announcement**.
4. In the **Announcement** text box, enter your message. Type {{timer}} where you want the countdown to appear. For example: "Your cart is reserved for {{timer}} minutes."
5. In the **Timer** area, turn on the **Timer** toggle.
| You can also add variables with the **{}** button in the text toolbar.
## Choose the type of timer
In the **Timer** area, choose one option:
* **Fixed minutes**: Each shopper gets their own countdown for the number of minutes you set, for example 10 min. Use the **−** and **+** buttons to change the time.
* **Timer to date**: The countdown runs until a date you choose, for example the last day of a sale.
## Choose what happens when the timer ends
1. Open the **Action when timer ends** menu.
2. Choose what happens, for example **Reset timer**.
3. Optional: Select **Reset timer when products are added to cart**. The countdown then starts again each time a shopper adds a product.
## Change how the announcement looks
Use the text toolbar above the text box to change the text size and color. You can also make the text bold, italic, or underlined, or add an emoji. Under **Background**, choose a background color for the announcement.
## Show the timer in other languages
1. Click **Translate** in the top bar.
2. In **Edit translations**, choose a language.
3. Edit the text under **Announcement**. Keep {{timer}} in each translation.
4. Click **Save**.
## Check the result
Look at the live preview on the right of the cart editor. The announcement appears at the top of the cart, above the products, and the timer counts down.
When you're happy with it, click **Save** in the top bar. To show the cart to shoppers, turn on the **Cart status** switch in the top bar, so the cart shows **Active**.
