Product recommendations are not showing

If recommended products don't show, start with the Shopify Search & Discovery app. AI recommendations need at least 1 product set there.
Check whether recommendations never appear, or only disappear in some carts or on some devices.

  1. Go to Cart tab > Body, and check that the Product upsell or Side product upsell toggle is on.
  2. Click the section, then look at the Products area.
  3. If you use AI recommendations, click Open Search & Discovery.
  4. In the Shopify Search & Discovery app, set at least 1 product.
  5. Check that Show products is set to 1 or more.

Recommendations disappear in some carts

  1. Click Product upsell or Side product upsell, then look at the Settings area.
  2. Look at Hide upsell for products already in cart. If it's selected, products already in the cart aren't recommended again.
  3. Look at Remove upsells when cart is empty. If it's selected, recommendations don't show in an empty cart.

Side recommendations are missing on some devices

  1. Click Side product upsell.
  2. In the Settings area, look at Show on devices.
  3. On mobile, look inside the cart. On mobile devices, the side product upsell appears inside the cart, not beside it.

The whole cart is missing on some devices

Go to Cart tab > Settings and look at Show on devices. If it's set to Desktop or Mobile, the cart doesn't show on other devices.

What to send support

You can also click Get support in the Products area. Please send us:

  • Your store URL and the page where the problem happens
  • Whether you use Product upsell, Side product upsell, or both
  • Whether you use AI recommendations or Manual selection
  • The device and browser where recommendations are missing
  • Whether the problem started after a change (for example, a new theme)
  • Recommend products in your cart
  • Show product recommendations beside your cart
  • Choose AI recommendations or pick products yourself
  • My cart changes are not showing in my store
